Modern Mamas, Morningside

When I became pregnant, I knew immediately that I needed to find a support network, as our entire family resides outside of Brisbane. One of my best friends, who lives in NSW, mentioned the Peanut App, which is comparable to Tinder “for mums who are looking to meet other mums” at similar stages of pregnancy. I initially met a couple of mums that way. My obstetrician mentioned that there are other publicly run parent groups available; however, I struggled to get detailed information from my fertility clinic about how to join them. While proactively researching a mothers' group, I came across Modern Mamas. I can safely say that joining this mothers' group was one of the best decisions I made. I feel very fortunate to have met a lovely group of women, and it’s been a pleasure watching our babies grow into toddlers. Here are some key reasons why I loved the experience and would highly recommend this particular mothers' group, though I’m sure there are various other great alternatives around:
1. It forces you out of the house and is professionally run in a welcoming environment.
2. You are on the same page as other mums, asking the same questions, as the groups are segmented by your baby's age.
3. The people who attend these groups have paid for the experience, so attendance rates are high, and the commitment to invest in friendships is genuine.
4. It’s a gateway to making lifelong friends. You can expect to cry and laugh together!
5. You feel supported during those very vulnerable newborn stages, discussing parenting roadblocks, celebrating milestones, and sharing ideas.
If you find yourself in a parents' group, it pays off to be proactive and contribute to ensuring the group continues to thrive after the term finishes. Our group often met at various parks after the term ended. I enjoyed hosting a few sessions at my home, and we still occasionally catch up over lawn bowls, birthday parties, and dinners. Along with mothers' groups, Modern Mamas hosts various other activities, such as sensory classes. I 100% intend to join a group again when the time comes to have my second. Lastly, Kudos to Carene from Modern Mamas for founding such a fantastic business. She is making a meaningful difference in people's lives, and I have so much respect for what she has created and how hard she works behind the scenes to make it so special.
