Steam Railway Society, Wynnum West

Tucked away on Wynnum Road, the Brisbane Bayside Railway Society hosts a delightful miniature railway that’s perfect for families, preschoolers and beyond! We discovered this charming spot after a friend recommended it, and we couldn’t have been happier with our visit. The train rides take place on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, so be sure to check their website for more details on opening times.
Don’t be surprised if your kids want to ride the train multiple times—they can’t get enough of it! During our visit, we enjoyed watching a variety of miniature steam trains and saw model engineers busy with mini-train maintenance, which was fascinating. For the ultimate train enthusiasts, there’s even a party area, and according to their website, they offer night runs!
Tickets are reasonably priced, and the train staff are passionate about their work. One gentleman shared that his son rode the train at just 7 years old and was inspired to become a volunteer. Now at 15, he’s still involved—what a great testament to the joy this place brings!
The railway offers easy on-site parking, and the train tracks are just a stone’s throw away from a miniature car racetrack (pictured), making it a perfect family outing. After enjoying several train rides, we spent some time at the nearby park with friends, wrapping up a wonderful morning together.
I’ll make sure to grab more photos on my next visit, as it can be tricky to capture the charm of the place without people in the frame!
